Body Building Macros - Success Made Simple

There are thousands of blogs, posts, reels and articles all over the internet and social media giving advice about how to lose weight, how to bulk up and how to maintain weight and on top of that, what supplements you should take and not to mention, performance enhancing drugs or PEDS as they're referred to in the fitness industry. Many trainers would have you believe that it's some magic formula or some dark art to achieving your fitness goals.

The reality however, couldn't be further from the truth.......the fact is as I tell my Portsmouth personal training clients, it's the most simple thing. Simply eat the calories that I give you as your daily allowance and hit your protein targets. If all you do are these 2 things, then for most clients, other than advanced fitness enthusiasts, you will achieve your goals using my body building macros. No need to spend a fortune on supplements, just hit these two targets every day and you'll achieve the most amazing things.

These simply two steps will account for about 80% of your initial success. If you want to get really complicated, make sure that you get at least 7 hours sleep and drink at least 2 litres of water and train hard and follow my advice.

Many of my clients like to think it's more complicated.......but it isn't. You'll be surprised at just how far you'll progress just doing these couple of things.

Body Building Success Pyramid

The pyramid above is not your classic image you'll find on the internet but it's the advice that I give to all my clients. At the bottom is the total calorie intake. Hit this target (whether you're losing, gaining or maintaining weight) and this will account for the majority of your success. Hit the total protein target.....I'll usually give you a a total number of 'grams of protein' to consume. Many clients will find this hard to believe and think that eating less calories will help them lose weight faster......well it might help lost calories but you'll end up with high levels of muscle wastage and end up being skinny-fat, which is very common amongst my female clients.

My job is to make your transformation journey as easy as possible. You won't need to count calories, just weigh your food and follow my diet plan......and leave the rest to hard work and consistency!

Quality Food - Hitting Your Bodybuilding Macros

Eating well and eating healthy doesn't need to be boring and you don't need to starve yourself. Buying good quality, basic foods will bring effective and fast results. Until you've mastered the basics (see diagram above), don't worry too much about supplements. The key to eating well and consistency is preparation. Making sure that you take the time to prepare your food for the following day the night before. Small, regular food intake rather that the classic 3 big meals will go a long way to avoid feeling hungry and helpiing support a healthy metabolism.

Quality Exercise

Not all exercise is equal. For many of my clients, they are used to counting reps and sets and simply 'going through the motion' so that they can tick off the fact that they've done the exercises set for them. This is not going to do anything for you other than keep you active!! To transform yourself will take effort and require genuine blood, sweat and tears....becoming familiar with 'failure' and what it takes to push your boundaries and step outside your comfort zones.
